Chapter 11: The Set Up
This is a major chapter in the book, and if all goes well, the last major hurdle for the fledgling homeowner. It begins with a reminder about the nature of the business: dealerships are as likely to try and shortchange you at this stage as they are at the previous ones. The consumer is then walked through the typical manufactured home set up process with particular emphasis on two problem areas which they will have an opportunity (albeit brief) to check and correct: the insulation and the marriage wall studs. These areas are quickly sealed off by the set up crew, so the consumer needs to verify that all is in order quickly. Then, the reader is introduced to the correct way to construct support piers and the general problem of water leaks in some detail. Other areas discussed include anchor systems, vapor barriers, ceiling and wall cracks, HVAC leaks, splits in doors, and much more. As elsewhere in the book, the emphasis continues to be on solutions to the problems. One major solution to poor site preparation (which is common on the part of dealerships) is discussed in depth – French Drains.
