Chapter 2: Doing Your Homework
This chapter is going to start focusing the reader on strategies that will be employed throughout the rest of the book. First the reader will be encouraged to think about their long term needs, and to organize them in terms of things they really require in a home and things they would like to have in a home. These items will be organized in requirements lists and wish lists which the consumer can refer to throughout their search for the perfect home. The reader is also encouraged to explore money saving alternatives at each step of the process, and to think in terms of long range plans. Long range planning introduces us to one of this chapter's major subjects: energy efficiency. Energy efficiency used to be a bane of the manufactured housing industry, but now can be one of its strong points and save the customer money long after they have moved into their home. In fact, by ordering your home with certain energy efficient options, you may be able to save thousands of dollars in rebates or discounts from both utility companies and state revenue offices. "Doing Your Homework" closes by recommending potential consumers visit manufactured housing plants and doing internet research. Both of these sources can provide valuable information. The chapter closes with a list of manufacturer web sites.
